About

One person, and a lot of measuring.

MODE Lab is a one-person exercise science and personal training practice in the Sutherland Shire. The whole idea is to replace guesswork with something you can actually read.

The short version

Why this exists.

Most people who start training are handed a program before anyone has looked at how they move. It might work. It might also load the exact pattern that was already struggling. Nobody finds out either way, because nothing was measured at the start.

MODE Lab starts the other way around. The first session is an assessment — how you move, what you can produce, and, if you want it, a body composition baseline. Only then does a program get written, and it gets written to answer what the assessment found.

The name is the method: Metabolic Optimisation and Design Engineering. Measure what the body is doing, find the limiting factor, then build the program deliberately rather than by habit.

Credentials

Accreditation

Accredited Exercise Scientist with ESSA, alongside a Personal Training qualification.

Practice

Every session, assessment and program is run by the same person. There is no team to be handed between.

Scope

Prevention, risk factors, fitness and performance are mine to assess and program for, and being sent by a GP or a physiotherapist does not put you outside that. Treating a diagnosis or an injury is their work and stays with them. Where one of them has written you an exercise plan, I deliver it as written. And where a healthcare professional has cleared you to return to play, I can train you — the clearance is theirs to give, and I work from it.

Method

Nothing gets programmed before it is assessed. A movement screen, a strength assessment and a body composition baseline up front, the same checks repeated later, and a written record of what changed and what the program did about it.

How I work

Three things that shape every session.

A measurement beats an opinion

Plenty of training advice is somebody's preference dressed up as a rule. If we can measure it instead, we measure it, and we measure it again later to see whether the plan worked.

You should understand your own program

There is no value in a plan you cannot explain to yourself. You get told what we found, what it points to, and why the program is shaped the way it is.

Consistency beats intensity

The best program is the one you keep turning up to. Sessions are built around the time you actually have, not the time a template assumes.

Rebates

What you can claim.

Sessions are not claimable through Medicare or DVA. MODE Lab is not an eligible provider under either scheme.

Some private funds subsidise preventative programs under a health management benefit, with a doctor’s certification. Whether yours does is a decision for the fund rather than one I can make — the pricing page sets out how to check.

Come and get measured.

The first session is the assessment. It costs the same as any other session, and you leave knowing where you actually stand.
